GJI and friends tee off for youth charity

news 30 June, 2009, 11:05 AM

Not even the chilly 26th of June morning could keep the 112 keen golfers away from attending GJI’s 6th Annual Charity Golf Day, and raising an amazing $37,000 to go towards supporting SU Queensland!

Hope Island Resort Golf Club was the perfect backdrop to the events of the day.  After a hearty breakfast, the competition quickly began with each team of 4 putting their best drive to good use. As with every year, a few of the holes around the course provided a little bit of extra fun and an opportunity to give a donation by participating in each holes activity. Some activities included: ‘Fastest Drive’, ‘Nearest To The Pin’, ‘Longest Drive’, ‘Mural Painting’, ‘Perfectly Designed Shot’, ‘$10  Hole In One’, and ‘Hit With Professional Golfer: Charles Gardiner’.

After a delicious buffet lunch, speakers, such as: Dave Hockey, the famous Duncan Armstrong, and SU Queensland CEO Tim Mander helped everyone to understand just how important the work of SU Queensland is, and what a difference we can all make in supporting our youth.

The auction items were another hit with the crowd, thanks to Phillip Black (Blacky) who helped to get those bids up as high as possible. We are confident items such as the 10kg chocolate bars won’t go to waste!

Of course, the day could not have been such a great success without our Gold Corporate Sponsors: Chris’ Supa IGA, Mipela, Invision Wealth, Merrin and Cranston.

Overall, each golfer really enjoyed the complete GJI experience. They also got to feel proud that in this tough economic time, we banded together to raise so much for such a worthy cause.
