GJI droving to raise funds for SU ‘Chappies’
07 October, 2009
From Tuesday 22nd September, GJI's director Anthony Grant helped raise much needed funds for Scripture Union (SU) Chaplains, or as they’re more caringly known as - ‘Chappies’. Four days and three nights on horseback droving cattle, sleeping under the stars in a swag, and experiencing everything outback Australia has to offer, had moments reminiscent of the City Slickers film - minus Curly.
The Fundraising Event which will finish soon runs for six weeks with one of its main aims, building a corporate connection. Sponsors are flown in from major cities to assist droving cattle to the final selling point in Roma. The event is unique in that instead of asking for a direct monetary donation, sponsors are asked to buy a certain number of cattle and to donate the head of cattle. Along with approaching property owners along the droving trail, this form of sponsorship has seen to be effective at establishing a relationship between the sponsors and the cause. It is being hailed as a great experience and a ‘manure’ load of fun.
The funds raised go to providing regional schools with a ‘Chappie’ whose role is to build connections with the children, being someone to talk to about issues at school and at home.
This was Anthony's second time droving for the SU Chaplains fundraiser. He believes that through his involvement in an event such as this, he is able to show not only financially, but physically the extent to which GJI values organisations and people who give back to, and positively impact the wider community.
