GJI Golf Day raises $56,000 for Charity

On Friday 25th June GJI hosted our 7th Annual Charity Golf Day to raise much needed funds for SU Queensland.
The target was to raise $50,000 to ensure 25 school Chaplains could be trained and resourced to appropriately handle the multitude of issues kids are facing today in the school yard and at home. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our sponsors and supporters we exceeded our target by $6,000 and raised a staggering $56,000!!
The day took place at Hope Island Resort Golf Club where guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast on the terrace, 18 holes of golf, various hole entertainment and activities and a delicious buffet lunch served in the fountain court.
Guests were privileged to hear from Vanessa Rainbow, Helensvale High Chaplain, who works alongside and supports hundreds of students every single day. One of these students, Elle Cook (yr 11), shared her story about how Vanessa encouraged her through a hard time in her life. Elle spoke beautifully and even brought a few of our guests to tears.
After hearing from Vanessa and Elle, the famous Golf Day Auction took place and was conducted by our fantastic auctioneer Philip Black. Items included holidays to North Queensland and Fjij, 10kg blocks of Cadbury Chocolate, sporting memorabilia, corporate golf day packages, a Michael Kasprowicz corporate speaking package and the ultimate Melbourne Cup Lexus Experience. Philip did a wonderful job raising bids and excitement in the room.
After the thrill of the auction was over, the winners of the day were announced. This year it was a tie between Chris’ Supa IGA and Black Toyota. Congratulations to both teams.
The day could not have gone ahead without our volunteers, the wonderful staff at Hope Island, Professional Golfer Kurt Carlson, Auctioneer Philip Black, Gold Coast PCYC, and of course our amazing sponsors…. on behalf of every Chaplain and school aged kid across Queensland thank you so much for your generosity.
